The latest version of our Wolfram|Alpha App for iOS just hit the iTunes App Store, and it comes with some exciting new features! Alongside visual upgrades to weather queries and the addition of links to purchase consumer products directly from Best Buy comes the biggest upgrade to our mobile app yet: using images as input.
With an in-app purchase of $0.99 comes the ability to use photos from your Camera Roll or pictures taken on the fly and input them directly into Wolfram|Alpha. Wolfram|Alpha can then provide analysis of your photo, add filters, detect features, perform color processing, and apply image effects.
Weather and consumer product queries also received an update. A query for the weather will provide a more graphical output, and a query for a consumer product, like a washer, will come with links to purchase the items directly from Best Buy.
The Wolfram|Alpha App for iOS can be found on the iTunes App Store for $2.99. Feel free to learn more about this app, our Wolfram Course Assistant Apps, and our other mobile apps.
Pic is worth sight, sound is worth hearing, text is worth reading, this new app from wolfram alpha will add one dollar to the project from one billion people in time. Steve jobs may have passed. It the iPad and iPhone live on as smart products that carry wolfram alpha. The new iPad will give better quality pics for less price to this new app. Well done Stephen Wolfram. Many happy returns.
Will the Android version one day see this awesomeness?
Where are the User Instructions on how to use the image processing feature? I tried pasting apicture into the input line as shown on the blog but nothing happened ? The price is shown on the blog as 2.99 but on the ipad itunes it is shown as 0.99.

when you purchase this add-on is it a one time charge or do you pay every picture you use?
@ John –
The add-on is a one time charge. Thanks!
I use this awesome app for my Math calculations. If I take a picture of the problem I need to solve and upload it in my wolframaplha app, will it be able to read that question?
Thank you for your question! Text recognition is a work in progress and currently does not work well with special characters including those used in math problems.
